The video player: Weak points and future options
- Better scaling for better timing and to avoid “manual bitrate control”
- Having heavy scenes resulting in delayed frames and prolonged duration. The encoder could better detect and somehow merge or skip source frames to ensure correct timing.
- Dynamic update load split at runtime
- Instead of chopping up into 4 frames up front, the runtime renderer could target 4 frames in a dynamic manner. Using line interrupts could squeeze out more cycles and automatically adapt every individual frame’s available cycles.
- Scale bandwidth by using two-colors mode, could be nice to support
- It will work nicely as 24 = 16
- I see several cool things one could do with the two-color model. Fewer colors can either increase the framerate or we can allow bigger diffs into each shown frame. The latter being of highest interest.
- A monochrome video could be made more lively by fading, different tones and crossfades.
- Fade up/down could easily be added
